What is a Cooperative School?

A cooperative school is a family orented school where parents work in conjunction with the professional staff to provide the finest preschool education possible. Families are dirrectly involved in their childrens education, and are welcome to participate in the classroom. Parents are urged to contribute time to the school by volunteering on the board as well as fund raising committees.

Tobay Day School

Tobay Day School is one of Long Island's oldest cooperative nursery schools. It began as a neighborhood playgroup and had it's first rented space in 1954 in a local church. Soon there after it was located in the North Shore Synagogue. In it's third year, a building fund was established, with an adequate down payment for it's current location 140 Syosset Woodbury Road in Syosset.
Tobay Day School is a non-sectarian school for two, three, and four year old children. We operate with a modified cooperative structure which means that family participation is not only welcome but incouraged.
At Tobay, every effort is made to make the preschool experiance as happy and productive as possible, including a pleasant and well equipt facility, expert teachers and a well-rounded enriching program.
Our philosophy begins with play and the idea that children learn best when they are having fun. We present a very nurturing and comfortable enviornment where children can easily learn and socialization thrives
